Hi Guys, I am considering purchasing a JD 4100 Hydro with 410 loader and 54" mower deck. I have a small (10 acre) horse farm and will be using the tractor for stall cleaning, manure management, post hole digging, finish mowing, snow removal etc. I would like comments on the price of this unit as well as tire choice (turf vs bar). I am moving up from a JD 445/ 40 loader. Thanks, HarryW

Harry,
We also bought our 4100 with the 54" deck, 410 loader, ballast box, 1 set of rear wheel weights, block heater, and two worklights for $16k. If I could do it over, I would have had the dealer throw in the $35 bucket indicator. Which comes in real handy for plowing snow and such. So far, I love the unit. Initially we ordered it with R4 tires, because I understand they practically last forever, and have a very high weight rating. Well, we have since traded them on Turfs. Mostly because the R4s did present a bit of "lug" damage to the yard under tight turning conditions and they provide an extremely rough ride. I was also told that they are less impressive in snow than turfs or R1s. This past week has allowed me to use the loader for snow removal, which included 3' and 4' drifts. The turfs do offer amazing snow traction, and short of being on a sheet of pure ice...I can't say that I plan to buy chains. Lastly, Don't forget to buy or build a sufficiently weighted ballast box. Feel free to e-mail me directly with any additional questions or comments you may have.. ....

I bought a 4100 hst, turf tires, 410 loader w/ 60" bucket, and 60" mower deck for $16,700 in June 1999. Like MLS said, I recommend the bucket level indicator and ballast box. ....

I also have the 4100 but only with the 54" deck, no loader as of yet (since I also have a Bobcat I use for heavy work). I paid $13,500 for the tractor and deck. I still have few hours on it but the next year should give it more of a workout. I have the turf tires since I need it for a lot of mowing ....

Hi Guys, Thanks for the replys. I got a bit of a shock yesterday when the dealer only offered me $6000.00 for the 445/40 loader that I paid $12,000 for exactly one year ago. On top of that, his price for the 4100/410 loader/60" deck and ballast box came in at $17,300.00. Looks like I may have to go another and perhaps better route. I am now planning on keeping the 445 for mower work and stall cleaning and looking for a used bigger tractor, maybe a backhoe. For the $11,000 difference the dealer wanted in trade, I should be able to find some thing decent. So much for the "resaled" value of JD products, at least when it comes to trade ins.

Wow! Harry, I bought a Kubota B7100, with front end loader, in 1995 for $10,800 and after 4 years and just under 500 hours, the dealer gave me an honest $8,000 for it when I bought the B2710. I don't know whether Kubota holds resale that much better, or you're just talking to the wrong dealer. ....

I believe you got such a poor trade value on your 445 is because this is a garden tractor, not considered a compact by any means. I traded in a 15 year old compact with 750 hrs. and got over $4,700, this was more than tractor cost 15 yrs ago. ....

JD has a special factory incentives price going on until Feb. 25, 2000. I just bought a 4100 gear for $9999, with a 54" mid-mount mower for $1500 more. You have to badger the dealer to honor this price because they don't make their usual profit, just a kickback from the company. By the way, I love my 4100, and the gear tranny is not too much of a problem, unless I were mostly doing loader work. ....

New JD4100 on it's way! My wife and I are excited, just ordered a new 4100 - could of had one off the lot, but decided to order it and give us time to make room (parting with some motorcycles). FYI: JD4100 Hydro 4WD with DSCV's, 60" mid-mount JD mower, JD410 loader, loader level gage, rear work light, R4 industrial tires: $16,500.00 Dealer was great to work with, says 2 months for tractor to arrive, offered to let me have one now, but mid-April fits our plans fine. We have 5+ acres to take care of - mowing, loader work, drainage trenches to level and work down - we're excited! ....
